What Is CEREC Dental Technology?

If you need restorative dentistry in Fairhope, then you may be looking for the most modern technologies to fix your tooth. And, the good news is that lots of practices today use top-notch technology and manufacturing to deliver incredible dental service. One of them is CEREC or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic.

If this is the first time you are hearing about it or if you want to learn more about this technology and its benefits, then this article is for you.

CEREC Dental Technology Explained

When we say CEREC, we mean Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic. This technology revolutionized the way certain dental treatments are done as it brought more precision and quality while reducing the number of visits one needs to get treatment.

CEREC can be used in restorative dentistry to address issues such as:

  • Fillings
  • Dental crowns
  • Dental veneers
  • Dental bridges
  • Inlays/onlays

Usually, when a dentist needs to create one of these, they will send an imprint of the tooth or teeth to a specialized lab and wait for them to be created. The traditional process takes a few weeks and requires multiple visits to the dentist.

With CEREC technology there is no need to create an imprint and send it to a lab that will manufacture the crown or veneer. Everything can be done at the dentist’s office and on the same day.

How Does CEREC Work?

The dentist can create fillings, crowns, and veneers in-office with the help of advanced and high-quality computer-aided design known as CAD, and computer-aided manufacturing known as CAM.

The technology also combines the use of a 3D camera with a digital imaging system and a ceramic mill to create the impressions.

The dentist will take pictures of your mouth with a special camera. Then, with the help of CEREC, a 3D model of the tooth will be created. The model will then be used to manufacture your dental crown, for example.

The milling process takes around 30 minutes and it uses a block of ceramic to create the dental piece you need to complete your treatment. Everything is customized so you can rest assured that the final product will fit perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

Benefits of CEREC

One of the biggest benefits of CEREC is that you will get the treatment on the same day and without having to go to different specialists. But, the advantages don’t stop here:

  • No need for temporary crowns since everything is done the same day.
  • No extra costs as you skip the extra visits to the dentist or the need for temporary crowns.
  • The process is completed with fewer visits, which makes it more time as well as cost-effective.
  • Very natural results thanks to the precision of this technology.
  • Strong and long-lasting treatment that can outlast the traditional crowns.
